MISSISSAUGA — Peel Regional Police have seized 23 illegal firearms and arrested four people following a 10-month investigation into an alleged gun-trafficking network operating across the Greater Toronto Area.
Police unveiled the results of Project Red Zone on Tuesday. The undercover investigation began in October 2025 after officers received information that illegal firearms were being trafficked into and throughout the GTA.
Investigators said 15 of the 23 seized firearms have been traced to the United States, while forensic testing linked 14 of the weapons to shootings across the GTA.
One firearm was linked to a March 2024 double shooting in Mississauga that killed 37-year-old Toronto resident Alastair Robinson and injured another man. Police said the gun was manufactured in Texas and was connected to the homicide through ballistic evidence.
Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said investigators believe additional seized weapons could ultimately be traced back to the United States.
Police also recovered approximately 950 rounds of ammunition and 824.75 grams of cocaine while executing search warrants in Mississauga, Ajax and Scarborough. The investigation received assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
Milinovich said removing the firearms could have a significant impact on public safety, noting that illegal guns are frequently associated with shootings, extortions, home invasions, carjackings and other violent crimes.
Four people are facing charges in connection with the investigation.
Stephen Prakash Consala, 24, of Scarborough faces 34 charges, including 23 counts of firearms trafficking and nine counts of trafficking a controlled substance. Akshaya Srikanthan, 24, of Ajax faces 11 firearms-trafficking and seven controlled-substance-trafficking charges.
Sammy Shaik, 28, of Mississauga and Janoj Dhayabaran, 23, of Toronto are also facing charges.
The allegations against the accused have not been proven in court.
