Brampton proudly reaffirms its title as the “Cricket Capital of Canada” through significant investments and developments in cricket infrastructure and programming. These initiatives aim to foster community engagement, promote active lifestyles, and support the city’s diverse population.
In the 2024 Budget, the City of Brampton committed $8 million to enhance cricket infrastructure and programming. This substantial investment includes the construction of new cricket fields and pitches at Blue Oak Park and County Court Park, with plans for additional facilities in the future.
Further enhancements approved by the City Council include:
- Andrew McCandless Park – Addition of two shade structures with power access and installation of a four-lane cricket batting cage.
- Save Max Sports Centre – Installation of a four-lane cricket batting cage.
- Batsman Park, Teramoto Park, and Emancipation Park – Consideration of new shade structures, with community consultations planned for future developments.
These developments are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to support the growing popularity of cricket and provide top-tier amenities for players of all ages.
Demonstrating a commitment to nurturing young talent, the City introduced its first-ever Youth Cricket League on July 2, 2024. Designed for youth aged six to 15, the league mirrors the format of the Global T20 Canada tournament, featuring six teams in each age group. This initiative encourages youth to get active, lead healthy lifestyles, and experience the power of sport.

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos has been instrumental in championing these initiatives. Her collaboration with organizations like the Brampton Cricket League and leaders such as Faraz Saleem has been pivotal in prioritizing investments in cricket.
“Whether it’s the batting cages, new pitches, lights, home and away pavilions, youth cricket fields, and more… it’s been an incredible process with more to come,” said Councillor Santos.
