FDA Recalls 2 Million Baked Goods Over Listeria Concerns – Donuts Among Affected Items

Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of 2 million baked goods, including donuts, cake rings, fritters, crullers, and munchkins, due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recall affects products distributed by FGF Brands, LLC, a wholesaler based in Indiana that supplies baked goods to retailers across the U.S. and Canada.

The FDA initially issued a recall on January 7, 2025, but later updated it to a Class II recall on February 5, meaning the affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, though the probability of severe illness is low.
Listeria is a dangerous bacteria and the third-leading cause of death from foodborne illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While healthy individuals may experience mild symptoms, pregnant women, seniors over 65, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of severe complications.

According to the FDA report, several recalled products were sold to Dunkin’ Donuts, though it remains unclear which specific items were impacted.

The FDA has not released a full list of affected products, but multiple sources, including The Independent, report that the recall includes approximately 60 different donut products with expiration dates before or on December 13, 2024.

Check your baked goods for expiration dates before December 13, 2024.
If you have purchased any potentially affected products, dispose of them immediately.
Monitor for symptoms of listeria infection, including fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.

With millions of baked goods recalled, consumers are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize food safety as the investigation continues.
