Crime Wave: 166 Break-and-Enters Reported in Mississauga and Brampton in One Month

Peel Region has seen a surge in break-and-enter incidents, with 166 reported cases in Mississauga and Brampton over the past 31 days, according to Peel Regional Police data.

Between January 9 and February 9, Mississauga recorded 79 break-ins, while Brampton saw 87. These incidents targeted various properties, including 82 houses, six apartments, six garages or sheds, 15 stores, nine restaurants, two construction sites, two gas stations, one office, and one pharmacy. Additionally, five cases were listed under “other,” while 37 involved unidentified businesses.

Several streets experienced multiple break-ins during this period:

  • Dundas Street: 6 incidents
  • Lakeshore Road: 6 incidents
  • Queen Street: 6 incidents
  • Kennedy Road: 4 incidents
  • Main Street: 4 incidents

Out of the 166 reported cases,

  • 149 remain under investigation
  • 14 have been solved
  • 3 have been deemed unsolved

Recent high-profile cases include:
🔹 A Brampton teen charged following an armed home invasion that led to an assault.
🔹 A suspect hit with over 400 charges for break-ins at car dealerships and multiple locations across Southern Ontario.

According to Peel Police, burglars often target homes that appear unoccupied or have easy escape routes. Properties at higher risk include:

  • Corner lots
  • Homes backing onto parks or open spaces
  • Houses that look poorly maintained

Peel Police recommend the following safety measures to reduce the risk of break-ins:
✅ Trim shrubs and hedges to maintain clear visibility of windows and doors
✅ Keep garage and screen doors locked, even when at home
✅ Build relationships with neighbors and keep an eye out for suspicious activity
✅ Install additional locking devices on windows and sliding doors

Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the police.
