The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a late-night confrontation in Brampton where Peel Regional Police fired less-lethal weapons at a 15-year-old boy early Sunday morning.
According to the SIU, officers responded to a call about a weapon-related incident near Oaklea Boulevard and McLaughlin Road around 3:20 a.m. Reports indicated a distressed individual was armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to contain the situation before deploying force. Two officers fired Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) rounds, while three others discharged Tasers. The teen was taken to the hospital for assessment but did not sustain serious injuries.
Although the teenager was not gravely hurt, the SIU is mandated to investigate all cases where police discharge weapons, including less-lethal options such as ARWEN rounds and Tasers.
Three SIU investigators have been assigned to the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information, photos, or video footage to assist the investigation by calling the SIU’s lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or submitting details online at siu.on.ca.
