Relations between Italy and the United States have come under renewed strain after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni publicly rejected remarks made by Donald Trump, accusing the U.S. president of inventing a story about their interaction during the recent G7 Summit in France.
The dispute arose after Trump reportedly told an Italian television channel that Meloni had “begged” him to take a photograph with her during the summit and that he had only agreed out of sympathy.
