Express Entry Cut-Off Drops Below 400 in Latest Draw, Boost for French-Speaking Applicants

Canada’s immigration system has delivered a major opportunity for applicants as the latest draw under Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) saw the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score fall to 393, one of the lowest thresholds in recent years.

In the March 18, 2026 draw, IRCC issued 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) specifically targeting candidates with French-language proficiency. To qualify, candidates needed a CRS score of at least 393 and must have created their Express Entry profile before December 29, 2025.

This marks the 17th Express Entry draw of 2026 and highlights a continued focus on attracting French-speaking immigrants to support Canada’s bilingual workforce and demographic needs.

So far this year, French-language draws have issued 18,000 ITAs, making it the second-largest category after the Canadian Experience Class. Overall, IRCC has issued 53,604 ITAs in 2026, with a strong emphasis on candidates already in Canada through work experience or provincial nominations.

Recent draw trends show higher CRS cut-offs in other categories, including:

  • Canadian Experience Class: around 507–511
  • Provincial Nominee Program: 700+
  • Healthcare and specialized categories: varying thresholds

The significantly lower score in the French-language category reflects targeted immigration priorities and creates a valuable pathway for candidates with bilingual skills, even if their overall CRS score is not highly competitive.

The latest draw signals that Canada continues to fine-tune its immigration strategy by focusing on labour market needs, regional balance and language diversity, offering new opportunities for applicants who meet specific criteria.
