Liberal Candidate Tatiana Auguste Seeks Mandate in April 13 Terrebonne Byelection

Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste is hoping voters in the Montreal-area riding of Terrebonne will give her a clear mandate in the upcoming April 13 byelection after last year’s federal election result was overturned.

Auguste opened her campaign office in Terrebonne and told supporters she wants the riding to play an active role in federal decision-making. She said the community should be part of national discussions and have a strong voice at the federal level.

In the 2025 federal election, Elections Canada initially declared Auguste the winner by a single vote over Bloc Québécois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné. However, the result was later challenged after a voter reported that a mail-in ballot they attempted to submit had not been counted.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled to invalidate the election result, prompting a byelection that will see Auguste and Sinclair-Desgagné face each other again in the race for the seat.

The Terrebonne byelection is one of three federal contests scheduled for April 13. Voters will also head to the polls in the Toronto ridings of Scarborough Southwest and University—Rosedale, both traditionally considered Liberal strongholds.

During her campaign launch, Auguste assured residents that local consultations would take place regarding the proposed high-speed rail project planned between Quebec City and Toronto, which is expected to pass through the Terrebonne area.

She said her priorities include expanding affordable housing and addressing youth delinquency in the community. Auguste added that her brief experience in Parliament last year provided valuable lessons and said she intends to continue the work she began if voters return her to Ottawa.
