A delegation of 30 Canadians, including six Members of Parliament, was denied entry into the occupied West Bank early Tuesday after being stopped at the Allenby border crossing from Jordan. According to organizers, Israeli authorities asked each member of the group to sign a declaration acknowledging they posed a threat to public safety, a condition the delegates refused. The group was travelling on a sponsored visit organized by the Canadian Muslim Vote, a registered Canadian non-profit, with plans to meet displaced Palestinians, civil society groups, and officials in the West Bank and Israel. The six MPs affected are Liberal MPs Fares Al Soud, Iqra Khalid, Aslam Rana, Gurbux Saini and Sameer Zuberi, along with NDP MP Jenny Kwan. While some MPs said they did not expect issues entering as Canadian parliamentarians, others suggested the denial may reflect strained relations between Canada and Israel in recent years. The incident has raised concerns about diplomatic access and the treatment of elected officials travelling on humanitarian and fact-finding missions.
