Still Olivia, Still Noah — But Toronto Picks Its Own Top Baby Names for 2025

Olivia continues its remarkable reign as Ontario’s most popular baby girl name, holding the top spot for a record 16th straight year, while Noah leads the boys’ list for the sixth year in a row, according to the province’s newly released 2025 rankings. The rest of Ontario’s top girls’ names include Charlotte, Sophia, Amelia and Emma, while boys’ favourites after Noah feature Liam, Theodore, Oliver and Jack. Toronto, however, bucked the provincial trend, crowning Emma as the city’s top girls’ name and Muhammad as number one for boys, with Noah slipping into second place. The popularity of names like Olivia is easy to spot in classrooms across the province, where teachers and students have grown accustomed to multiple Olivias sharing nicknames, initials and even playful monikers like “Olive Garden.” Despite the occasional mix-up, many embrace the name’s meaning — rooted in peace — and its flexibility. Alongside releasing the annual list, the Ontario government also reminded parents about its streamlined 5-in-1 online birth registration system, aimed at reducing paperwork so families can focus on welcoming their newest members.
