Travellers at Toronto Pearson Airport faced significant delays Friday afternoon after another IT systems outage knocked out Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) primary inspection kiosks, disrupting customs processing at multiple Canadian airports.
The outage — the third in less than a month — affected Pearson’s Terminals 1 and 3 and caused longer-than-normal wait times at customs. CBSA confirmed the issue was linked to maintenance work and not a cyberattack.
“There is currently a CBSA Primary Inspection Kiosks outage due to maintenance work impacting some Canadian airports,” the agency posted on social media. “We are working with partners on fixing the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
Similar outages occurred on September 28 and October 2 following “unforeseen technical problems” during routine maintenance, leading to widespread delays and backlogs that took days to clear.
By 3 p.m., CBSA announced that the latest outage had been resolved and customs kiosk service was restored.
The recurring outages come at a time of high passenger volumes and have raised questions about the reliability of CBSA’s technology infrastructure at major Canadian airports.
