Brampton is writing more tickets and towing more vehicles than ever, as a major expansion of the city’s bylaw department continues to reshape parking enforcement.
An upcoming report to city council shows 94,884 parking tickets were issued in the first eight and a half months of 2025 — an 11 per cent jump from the same period last year. The fines have brought in nearly $4.8 million, up 18 per cent from $4.07 million in 2024.
Vehicle tows have surged even more dramatically, climbing 67 per cent compared to last year. Officials expect those numbers to rise further this fall as the city’s restructured tow contract increases towing capacity in the fourth quarter.
The sharp rise in enforcement comes after Brampton council approved a $4.4-million funding boost for the bylaw department in its 2024 budget. The funding added 38 new enforcement officers, two support staff, and new trucks and equipment, following a management review that found the department was understaffed and responding to only half of parking complaint calls.
The department now reports a perfect 100 per cent response rate for urgent parking safety calls, with significant improvements for lower-priority calls as well.
