MONTREAL — The RCMP say they arrested 16 people Friday night who were attempting to cross the Canada–U.S. border near St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Que. Police confirm the individuals were part of a group of 18, with two others still at large and being sought by authorities.
Investigators say the group was attempting to enter Canada illegally but declined to provide further details, citing an ongoing investigation.
The arrests come just weeks after a separate RCMP operation near Stanstead, Que., where 44 migrants were discovered crammed inside a truck without ventilation in an attempt to cross the border.
