Madonna Pleads with Pope to Visit Gaza and “Bring Your Light to the Children”

Madonna has made an emotional appeal to Pope Leo XIV, urging him to travel to Gaza and help open humanitarian access for children “before it’s too late.” The pop icon posted her message on social media Monday, saying her son Rocco’s 25th birthday inspired her to speak out.

“Most Holy Father. Please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it’s too late,” she wrote. “As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering. The children of the world belong to everyone. You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry. We need the humanitarian gates to be fully opened to save these innocent children. There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna.”

The singer stressed that she was not taking sides in the conflict, writing, “I am not pointing fingers, placing blame or taking sides. Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages. I pray that they are released as well. I am merely trying to do what I can to keep these children from dying of starvation.”

Her plea comes as Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, urging the international community to uphold humanitarian law and protect civilians. Aid workers and doctors warn that months of blockade and disrupted aid distribution have left children dying from malnutrition — a condition virtually unseen in Gaza before the war.

The United Nations estimates more than 5,000 children were diagnosed with malnutrition in Gaza in May, likely an undercount, as doctors report shortages of even the most basic medical supplies. Israel denies famine conditions, insisting food deliveries have been sufficient and blaming Hamas for diverting aid.

Madonna’s call adds a celebrity voice to growing international demands for urgent humanitarian action — and a hope that a papal visit could help break the deadlock.
