A Toronto Police officer from Brampton is facing serious charges following an on-duty incident that occurred last year. Provincial police have charged 38-year-old Brian Sukhram with breach of trust, obstruction of justice, and theft over and under $5,000.
The investigation began in July 2024 after allegations surfaced against Sukhram, who was then serving as a detective constable with the Drug Squad. Initially managed by the Toronto Police Service’s Professional Standards Unit, the case was transferred to the Ontario Provincial Police in January.
Sukhram, a 13-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service and a Brampton resident, was arrested last year in connection with a response to a report of a suspected impaired driver in Mississauga. During the attempted stop, multiple Peel Regional Police vehicles were damaged and two officers sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital.
Following his arrest, Sukhram was suspended without pay in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act. At the time, he was working as a plainclothes officer in the Drug Squad.
The OPP is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
