MISSISSAUGA | May 15, 2025 — The Sikh and South Asian communities in the Greater Toronto Area are in mourning and calling for urgent action after Harjeet Singh Dhadda, a well-known businessman and community leader, was fatally shot outside his Mississauga office on Wednesday.
The incident occurred near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way, close to the intersection of Dixie and Derry Roads. While Peel Regional Police have confirmed the death as a homicide, they have not yet released the victim’s name publicly. However, community sources have confirmed that the victim is Dhadda — a respected figure known for his work in trucking compliance and his dedication to helping Punjabi newcomers navigate the Canadian business landscape.
From Bazpur to Brampton: A Community Builder
Originally from Bazpur, Uttarakhand, Dhadda immigrated to Canada and built a successful trucking compliance firm that served logistics companies across the GTA. Beyond his business success, he was widely respected for his role in the Canadian Sikh Gurdwara Committee and for mentoring new immigrants seeking to establish careers in transportation and logistics.
His death has shocked the region’s tight-knit South Asian business community, especially as details have emerged indicating he was facing extortion threats in the weeks prior to the shooting.
Questions of Safety and Accountability
Community insiders report that Dhadda lodged formal complaints with authorities regarding threats to his safety. His murder has now prompted serious questions about law enforcement’s responsiveness and the resources available to protect minority business owners from targeted criminal activity.
“This is not just a tragic loss — it’s a wake-up call,” said a local Gurdwara leader. “Business owners are being threatened, harassed, and in this case, silenced. We need strong action before more lives are lost.”
Leaders across the Sikh and Punjabi diaspora are urging Peel Police to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation and to treat this incident as a targeted killing designed to intimidate other entrepreneurs who resist extortion and organized crime.
Police Seek Public’s Help
Peel Regional Police’s Homicide Bureau is actively investigating and has appealed to the public for any tips or information that could help identify the suspects involved. The department has not confirmed a motive but acknowledged the growing concern among community members.
As the investigation continues, Dhadda’s family, friends, and supporters are planning memorial gatherings and community safety forums to raise awareness and call for stronger protections.
“He was more than a businessman — he was a pillar in our community,” said one associate. “We must not allow his death to go unanswered.”
