Atiba Hutchinson Brings Free Youth Soccer Festival to Brampton with a Message of Kindness

Brampton is set to host a special celebration of sport and community as local soccer legend Atiba Hutchinson returns to his hometown for a free youth soccer festival on May 17 and 18 at Century Gardens Recreation Centre.

Titled the “13 Great Assists” Soccer Festival, the two-day event is inspired by Hutchinson’s iconic jersey number and aims to merge athletic fun with a spirit of giving back. With 105 international appearances over a two-decade career, Hutchinson holds the record for the most caps in Canadian national team history and is widely celebrated as one of Canada’s greatest soccer players.

Councillor Rowena Santos, who made the announcement, praised Hutchinson for continuing to uplift his community. “It’s an honour to support Brampton’s own, Atiba Hutchinson, who continues to inspire and give back to our community with events like this one at Century Gardens,” she said.

The festival encourages youth soccer clubs and players to engage in both the sport and in community service. Participants will be challenged to complete a bingo card filled with “acts of kindness” as part of the event’s unique concept, aimed at teaching young people the value of generosity, teamwork, and positive action both on and off the field.

“This blend of sport and service aims to plant the seeds of lifelong benevolence, encouraging youth to recognize the power they hold to effect positive change,” the organizers said.

Festival activities will include soccer challenges, a splash pad, music by a live DJ, and opportunities for participants to learn new skills in a fun, family-friendly environment. While the event is free and open to all youth, organizers have not yet confirmed the timing for each day.

The event will take place at Century Gardens Recreation Centre, located at 340 Vodden Street East, on May 17 and 18.
