Gunpoint Robberies Surge in Peel: Over 270 Robberies Reported in Mississauga and Brampton Since January

A sharp rise in robberies is gripping Mississauga and Brampton in 2025, with 274 incidents reported since January 1, including 103 involving firearms, according to Peel Regional Police.

Despite ongoing police investigations, only 100 cases have been solved, while 161 remain under investigation and 13 are still unsolved.

From January 1 to April 19, police data shows:

  • 274 total robberies
  • 103 with guns
  • 87 with other weapons
  • 84 categorized as ‘other’

Mississauga recorded 51 robberies, and Brampton accounted for 45, while the rest occurred across broader Peel Region.

Hotspots: Where Robberies Are Concentrated

Peel Police have identified the top high-risk areas based on reported incidents:

  • Dundas Street – 13 incidents
  • Lakeshore Road – 11 incidents
  • Airport Road & Eglinton Avenue – 8 incidents each
  • Burnhamthorpe Road – 6 incidents
  • Hurontario, Queen, and Main Streets – 7 each

Noteworthy Cases

  • Two seniors in their 70s were victims of violent carjackings in Mississauga.
  • A man was allegedly bound and forced to withdraw cash.
  • A jewelry store at Erin Mills Town Centre was robbed for the third time.
  • A Brampton teen was charged following an armed home invasion.
  • A robbery spree across Peel led to charges for three Ontario teens.
  • A 14-year-old boy was arrested after a botched robbery at a Mississauga currency exchange.

While arrest figures and injury reports remain unspecified, Peel Police continue to urge residents and businesses to stay vigilant.

Police Safety Tips for Businesses and Residents

To prevent robberies, Peel Police advise:

  • Install and maintain surveillance cameras.
  • Keep premises well-lit, inside and outside.
  • Train staff in robbery prevention.
  • Make frequent bank drops to limit cash on-site.
  • Use low shelving and maintain clear sightlines throughout your business.
  • Minimize clutter and signage that blocks views inside your store.

If a robbery occurs, police stress the importance of contacting authorities immediately and not attempting to intervene.
