Osler CEO Celebrates Historic Milestones and New Era for Brampton’s Health Care

Spring has brought not just a change in season, but a bold step forward for health care in Brampton. In a message to the community, Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO of William Osler Health System (Osler), shared two major milestones shaping the region’s health future: the groundbreaking of the new Peel Memorial Hospital and the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial.

On March 28, Osler officially broke ground on the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second full-service hospital, marking a historic leap forward in expanding care capacity across Peel Region. The event brought together Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma, Mayor Patrick Brown, donors, Board members, and health care champions to mark the start of early construction.

“This is a game-changer,” said Premier Ford. “This new hospital will deliver greater access to emergency and specialized care, and a stronger health system for generations.”

The new facility will feature a 24/7 Emergency Department, expanded inpatient services, and improved access to specialized care—critical needs as Brampton’s population continues to grow rapidly.

Coinciding with this historic announcement is the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial, marked by a year-long campaign titled Peel Memorial 100: Proud Past. Bold Future. The initiative includes community stories, commemorations, and recognition of Osler’s dedicated health teams and donors who have shaped its legacy of excellence.

Dr. Martino also highlighted a major clinical milestone: Osler’s surgical team recently completed their 1,000th robot-assisted total knee replacement using the ROSA® Knee System, making Osler one of just three hospitals in Canada to reach this advanced surgical benchmark.

“These milestones reflect our unwavering commitment to innovation, compassion, and community care,” said Dr. Martino. “We’re building not just a hospital, but a healthier, stronger future for all.”
