Mayor Patrick Brown, MP Kamal Khera, and City Councillors Join the Festivities
The spirit of unity, faith, and celebration filled the air this morning as Brampton’s Sikh community came together to celebrate Vaisakhi, one of the holiest days in the Sikh faith, at Gurdwara Sikh Sangat.
Mayor Patrick Brown joined the congregation in the morning service, alongside Member of Parliament Kamal Khera, Regional Councillor Navjit Kaur Brar, and Regional Councillor Paul Vicente. Together, they paid their respects and extended heartfelt wishes to the community on the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi 2025.
Vaisakhi, observed annually in April, commemorates the historic formation of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699 — a pivotal moment in Sikh history that symbolizes courage, equality, and spiritual devotion. The celebration marks both a religious and cultural milestone for Sikhs in Canada and around the world.
“Happy Vaisakhi to everyone in Brampton and across Canada! It’s always inspiring to see our community come together in celebration of such a sacred and unifying day,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “The values of the Khalsa—honour, service, and justice—continue to strengthen our city and make Brampton the vibrant, inclusive place that it is.”
The dignitaries were welcomed with traditional Sikh hospitality, including a tour of the Gurdwara and participation in the prayer service (Ardas). They also joined in Langar, the community meal, which symbolizes equality and service.
MP Kamal Khera shared, “Vaisakhi is a time to reflect on the powerful legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the principles that guide the Sikh faith. It is always a privilege to celebrate with the community in Brampton, a city enriched by its cultural diversity and spirit of inclusion.”

Councillor Navjit Kaur Brar emphasized the importance of preserving cultural and spiritual traditions, noting that Vaisakhi is a time of reflection and renewal for many families across the city.
Councillor Paul Vicente added, “Vaisakhi is not only a time of great joy for our Sikh community, but also a celebration of values that uplift all of us — unity, equality, and community service. I’m honoured to join in this celebration and thank our Sikh neighbours for their continued contributions to Brampton’s diverse cultural mosaic.”

The vibrant celebration at Gurdwara Sikh Sangat featured spiritual hymns (Kirtan), speeches honoring Sikh history, and colourful displays of faith and community service. Families from across Brampton and neighbouring regions came together to honour their traditions, while extending goodwill to neighbours and visitors.
As Sikhs across Canada continue to mark Vaisakhi, today’s gathering highlighted the resilience, warmth, and unity that define the community’s spirit.
Happy Vaisakhi 2025, Brampton!
