Trudeau Makes Housing Announcement in Winnipeg Ahead of Federal Budget Release”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Winnipeg on Thursday to unveil a significant housing announcement as the federal budget day approaches, while Minister Kamal Khera announced a crucial rental protection initiative.

Joined by Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew, Federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser, and Dan Vandal, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, Trudeau emphasized the government’s commitment to affordable housing.

In a separate announcement, Minister Kamal Khera highlighted the launch of the $1.5 billion Canada Rental Protection Fund, aimed at safeguarding vulnerable renters. “You should be able to live in the community you love at rental rates you can afford,” Minister Khera stated. “This fund means fewer buildings sold for profits, allowing for more spaces for community housing providers.”

Amid recent criticisms, Minister Khera reaffirmed the government’s dedication to protecting affordable housing and preserving rent prices. “While Pierre Poilievre makes fun of people’s homes, we’ll keep working with non-profits to build thousands of affordable rental units,” she added.

These announcements underscore the government’s proactive approach to address housing affordability challenges ahead of the federal budget release on April 16th.
