Toronto Set for Spectacular FIFA World Cup Kickoff as Global Music Stars Headline Opening Ceremony

The countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada has officially reached a new level of excitement as FIFA unveiled a star-studded lineup of performers for the historic opening ceremony in Toronto.

The ceremony, scheduled for June 12 at Toronto Stadium, will take place 90 minutes before Canada plays its first-ever FIFA World Cup match on home soil against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Leading the all-Canadian entertainment lineup are internationally celebrated artists Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez and Michael Bublé.

They will be joined by an international and multicultural roster of performers including Elyanna, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream and William Prince.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the opening ceremony will showcase Canada’s diversity, creativity and cultural pride to a global audience.

“The opening ceremony in Toronto will be a powerful reflection of Canada’s identity and the energy surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026,” Infantino said.

“Through music, culture and unforgettable performances, we will welcome the world with a celebration that is uniquely Canadian while also connected to a larger story unfolding across Mexico and the United States.”

FIFA officials said fans attending the match will play an active role in the ceremony experience and encouraged ticket holders to arrive early. Stadium gates are scheduled to open four hours before kickoff.

Toronto is one of the Canadian host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and has undergone major infrastructure and stadium upgrades in preparation for the international tournament, including enhancements at BMO Field.

The World Cup will also feature opening ceremonies in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

Mexico’s ceremony lineup includes Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean and J Balvin.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles will feature performances by Katy Perry, Future and Tyla.

With the world’s biggest sporting event arriving in Canada for the first time, excitement continues to build across Toronto as fans prepare to welcome the global football community next month.
