The Honorable Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North—Caledon and newly appointed Secretary of State for Combatting Crime, has delivered promising news for residents of Peel Region. In her first Question Period as Secretary of State, she reiterated the government’s commitment to cracking down on crime, ensuring violent offenders face tougher bail conditions and harsher sentences.
“Auto thefts, home invasions, and violent crimes are devastating families and fueling fear. Our new government is stepping up to end this now,” stated MP Sahota.
According to data released by Toronto Police, crime is already showing a sharp decline:
- Auto thefts down 39%
- Home invasions down 42%
- Homicides down 67%
- Shootings down 46%
These positive trends are a testament to federal and local law enforcement collaboration. The Peel Region—often at the heart of these challenges—stands to benefit from continued strategic investments in safety and justice.

In support of this federal effort, Amandeep Sodhi, newly elected Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre, emphasized her resolve to combat crime in her riding:
“Crime is one of the top concerns I hear from residents of Brampton Centre. We must tackle it head-on with smart policy and collaboration across all levels of government,” said MP Sodhi. “I am committed to working closely with City officials, the Province of Ontario, and our federal partners to ensure families in Brampton feel safe in their homes and on their streets. I look forward to partnering with my colleague, Ruby Sahota, to bring real, lasting solutions that make our communities stronger.”
Secretary Sahota is currently arranging consultations with police leadership, crown prosecutors, justices of the peace, and provincial representatives to ensure bail reform and criminal sentencing laws effectively keep violent offenders off the streets.
This renewed federal attention on community safety marks a turning point for Brampton and Peel Region. Residents can expect further investments in crime prevention, judicial reform, and community engagement in the months ahead.
