Peel Region to Provide Free Confidential Paper Shredding Services in May

Peel Region has announced that it will offer free confidential paper shredding services to its residents at three different community recycling centres (CRCs) next month. The service will be available at the Fewster CRC on May 4, the Heart Lake CRC on May 11, and the Bolton CRC on May 25, during the centers’ regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Igor Dodik, the acting supervisor of CRC platform operations for Peel Region, stated that residents are welcome to bring any unbound paper documents, including tax returns, bills, and income statements. To maintain efficiency and keep traffic flowing, he noted that visitors would not be permitted to stay and watch their documents being shredded. Instead, secure totes will be provided for the disposal of papers, which will then be shredded on-site.

In addition to shredding services, Peel Region encourages those taking advantage of the free shredding to bring non-perishable food items, which will be collected and donated to local food banks. Since introducing this service in 2010, Peel has shredded nearly 20 metric tons of paper, highlighting the community’s ongoing commitment to both recycling and privacy protection.
