Nationwide Recall for Power-7 USB Wall Chargers Due to Electric Shock Risk

Health Canada has issued a recall for the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018, which has been sold on Amazon Canada. This recall is due to an identified risk of electric shock associated with these chargers. The specific models affected are the white 2.1A/5V dual port USB cube power adapters with a grey stripe, identifiable by their model number US2018, visible on the prong side of the adapter.

These chargers were available in two pack sizes, sold under the Amazon Standard Identification Numbers ASIN B083LBZX1F and B082XPSDFL. Health Canada’s evaluation concluded that there is an “unreasonable risk” of electric shock when using these chargers, leading to the recall of 97,113 units that were sold between August 2020 and March 2024.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled chargers and dispose of them following local electronic waste regulations. However, details regarding refunds or replacements have not been provided by the responsible third-party seller or Amazon Canada.

This recall is part of a broader awareness and action on potentially hazardous electronic products sold in Canada, as reflected in recent recall activities including another ongoing recall involving Toshiba laptop chargers due to burn and fire hazards.

For those affected or requiring further guidance, Health Canada advises contacting their local municipal waste authorities on how to properly dispose of the recalled chargers, and to check the official Health Canada recall page for updates or additional instructions
