Ottawa, July 29: Former federal New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh is being considered for appointment as the next Chief Executive Officer of Destination Canada, the federal Crown corporation responsible for promoting Canada as a tourism destination, according to a report by CTV News.
If confirmed, Singh would succeed to one of the country’s most prominent tourism leadership positions, overseeing the national marketing organization responsible for promoting Canadian tourism both domestically and internationally.

Political Background
Singh served as leader of the federal New Democratic Party from 2017 to 2025 and represented the British Columbia riding of Burnaby South as a Member of Parliament from 2019 until 2025.
During his leadership, Singh played a pivotal role in Canadian federal politics through the confidence-and-supply agreement reached with then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government in March 2022.
Under the agreement, the NDP supported the minority Liberal government on confidence motions and federal budgets in exchange for progress on several NDP policy priorities. The arrangement enabled the Liberal government to remain in office until the agreement concluded in 2024.
