The City of Brampton is enhancing road safety with the establishment of a new Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Regional Processing Centre. Approved by City Council on May 29th, this initiative includes hiring 42 new staff members and preparing streets for an expanded ASE program.
Mayor Patrick Brown said having more ASE cameras in Brampton will change driver’s behaviors, calling the tickets “a voluntary tax for those that want to drive in an egregious, reckless manner.”
Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5; Chair, Legislative Services, City of Brampton said “Our residents deserve to feel safe on our roads. The new Automated Speed Enforcement Regional Processing Centre is a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to road safety and adds to the other strategic traffic calming measures we implemented that save lives and enhance the quality of life in our community. This initiative reflects our dedication to making Brampton the best place to live, work and play.”
The new ASE Regional Processing Centre, located at 175 Sandalwood Parkway West, Brampton, will create 42 new positions and is expected to be operational by summer 2024. The City of Brampton plans to expand its ASE program from 50 to 185 cameras by summer 2025, with 20 new cameras being installed this summer. Additionally, the city has implemented 180 Community Safety Zones with 40 km/h speed limits around schools to further enhance road safety.
