ehicle thefts in Mississauga and Brampton continue to be a significant concern, with a reported 562 cars, trucks, and motorcycles stolen over the past month, averaging about 21 thefts per day. While this number represents a 21% decrease from the same period last year, the frequency of these incidents remains high, causing alarm among residents.
The thefts have primarily occurred in specific areas, with 12 hotspots identified, including Airport Road, Great Lakes Drive, and Viscount Road, where six or more vehicles have been stolen.
Peel Regional Police are actively investigating these thefts, having solved only 15 cases so far, with the majority still under investigation. The targeted vehicles range from cars and trucks to motorcycles, with high-value models like BMW X7 SUVs being specifically targeted in recent carjackings.
In response to the ongoing thefts, Peel police have provided several recommendations for residents to protect their vehicles, including parking in locked garages, using steering wheel locks, installing data port locks, and setting up quality surveillance systems.
Despite the decrease from last year’s alarming numbers, the continued prevalence of vehicle thefts underscores the need for vigilance and protective measures in these communities.
