Peel Regional Police report a total of 497 vehicle thefts in Mississauga and Brampton from May 29 to June 29, 2024. This includes 258 incidents in Mississauga and 239 in Brampton, averaging over 16 thefts per day.
As of today, only nine cases have been resolved, with 470 still under investigation and 18 unsolved. The stolen vehicles comprise 351 automobiles, 136 trucks, eight motorcycles, and two listed as “other.”
Key locations for these thefts include:
- Airport Road – 7 occurrences
- Courtneypark Drive – 7 occurrences
- Derry Road – 7 occurrences
- Dixie Road – 11 occurrences
- Great Lakes Drive – 22 occurrences
- Kennedy Road – 7 occurrences
- Viscount Road – 12 occurrences
In comparison to the same period last year, when 684 vehicles were stolen, there is a noticeable decline, but vehicle thefts continue to pose a significant issue in the region.
Peel Regional Police offer these safety tips to help prevent auto theft:
- Park in a locked garage if possible, as many thefts occur from driveways.
- Use a steering wheel lock for visibility and deterrence.
- Install a lock on the vehicle’s data port to prevent key reprogramming.
- Invest in a quality surveillance system, ensuring cameras are well-placed and functional.
