Toronto’s Iconic Phở Hưng Celebrates 40 Years with Free Bowls of Pho During Summer Heat Wave

TORONTO, July 3, 2026 — One of Toronto’s best-known Vietnamese restaurants is marking a remarkable milestone by giving back to the community in a unique way. Despite the ongoing heat wave affecting the Greater Toronto Area, Phở Hưng on Spadina Avenue is offering complimentary small bowls of its signature pho to dine-in customers as it celebrates 40 years of serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

The special one-day promotion is available on Friday while supplies last. Customers visiting the restaurant can enjoy a free sample of the traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, which features a rich bone broth, rice noodles, thinly sliced meat and fresh herbs. While hot soup may seem like an unusual choice during soaring summer temperatures, pho remains a comforting favourite for many Torontonians throughout the year.

The family-owned restaurant has become a Toronto culinary landmark since it was established by Nguyễn Đắc Thòi, who immigrated to Canada with his family in 1980. Five years later, he opened the original Phở Hưng restaurant at 374 Spadina Avenue, helping introduce authentic Vietnamese flavours to generations of residents and visitors. As the restaurant’s popularity grew, operations moved to a larger location at 350 Spadina Avenue, where it continues to welcome customers today.

Over the past four decades, Phở Hưng has earned a loyal following and built a reputation for quality, consistency and traditional recipes. The business has also expanded beyond downtown Toronto with a second location on Dundas Street East in Mississauga. A previous location on Bloor Street West closed following a major real estate redevelopment project.

Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the Spadina Avenue restaurant remains one of the city’s most recognized destinations for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The anniversary celebration not only marks an important milestone for the family-owned business but also reflects the significant contributions of Toronto’s diverse immigrant communities in shaping the city’s vibrant culinary landscape.
