Toronto Police have charged three individuals with a total of 54 offenses following a dramatic series of carjacking incidents, culminating in a tense arrest operation. During the arrests, several police vehicles were damaged as the suspects attempted to flee, although no officers were injured.
At a news conference at the Toronto Police Headquarters, Acting Supt. Susan Gomes commended the officers for their bravery and execution during the operation. The investigation, which began on April 6 near Ellesmere and Kennedy roads, involved multiple high-value vehicles, including a blue BMW X5 and a white 2021 Lamborghini Urus, leading to their eventual recovery.
The initial carjacking incident occurred when a victim was threatened at gunpoint and forced to hand over their BMW keys to three masked men dressed in black. Days later, another victim was assaulted and robbed of their Lamborghini at a gas station, resulting in serious injuries.
The breakthrough came on April 12 when police, using an Automatic Licence Plate Reader, identified the stolen Lamborghini in a parking lot on Barmac Drive. Surveillance operations also spotted the previously stolen BMW X5 at the same location. Attempts by the suspects to escape resulted in the dramatic collision with police vehicles, captured on video and later shared by Supt. Andy Singh at the press conference.
Recovered items from the arrests include over $18,000 in cash, several handguns, stolen keys, and ammunition. The firearms found were noted to be modified to fully automatic and equipped with extended magazines, raising significant safety concerns.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Mehkash Sohal from Mississauga, 19-year-old Daquon Green from Oakville, and a 17-year-old from Oshawa whose name is withheld due to age, were arrested and faced multiple charges including robbery with a firearm and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
This incident has highlighted the need for greater regional cooperation in addressing violent crimes, as none of the suspects were Toronto residents, yet committed the offenses within the city. Toronto Police continue to investigate and have appealed to the public for any further information related to these incidents.
