Tiger Woods Makes TGL Debut in High-Tech Golf Spectacle

Tiger Woods stepped into the arena for his TGL debut on Tuesday night, becoming the sixth and final player to emerge from the tunnel at the SoFi Center at Palm Beach State College. No introduction was necessary. Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” blared as fans welcomed one of golf’s greatest players into this bold new format of indoor, made-for-TV golf.

“It is a reality now,” Woods said, reflecting on years of effort by him, Rory McIlroy, and others to bring TGL to life.

Tuesday’s matchup featured Woods teaming up with Kevin Kisner and Max Homa for the Jupiter Links Golf Club against the Los Angeles Golf Club, represented by Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala.

Despite Woods’ efforts, the final score was Los Angeles 12, Jupiter 1 in a 15-hole format that combined nine holes of alternate-shot triples and six holes of singles play. Woods, smiling throughout the match, acknowledged the fun despite the one-sided result.

“We were entertaining,” Woods said, laughing. “We hit a lot of shots. The people there got to see how bad pros can be. It was just a boat race, oh my goodness. But we had a great time.”

While Woods’ team quickly fell behind, moments of brilliance reminded fans of his legendary career. On the fifth hole, Woods drained an 8-foot par putt to secure a tie, a reprieve after missing a 7-footer on the previous hole.

“There were vintage Woods moments,” he said, “like staring down shots he liked as the high-tech video boards showed where the ball would have gone outdoors.”

The event also had its lighter moments. Woods chuckled as his teammate Kisner bladed a bunker shot that ricocheted off the pin, narrowly missing teammates. His son, Charlie Woods, joined in the laughs from the stands, especially when Tiger’s 101-yard wedge shot landed in the water.

Serena Williams, a part-owner of the Los Angeles Golf Club and a longtime friend of Woods, added her voice to the ESPN broadcast. She expressed excitement about the fresh energy TGL brings to golf.

“It’s so wild,” Williams said. “We never see this in golf — the light shows, the music, the personalities shining through. It’s so cool to see a new aspect.”

For Woods, the TGL debut wasn’t about victory but the experience of introducing a new way to enjoy the game. “This is unique,” Woods said. “You’re out there with great guys, entertaining everyone, just having fun.”

While the match didn’t go Woods’ way, his presence, charisma, and laughter underscored TGL’s goal: bringing golf to life in a way fans have never seen before.
