Newly released body camera footage has shed light on the dramatic moments following a car crash involving golf legend Tiger Woods, capturing a sequence of events that has sparked widespread attention and concern among fans worldwide.
The footage, recorded after the March 27 crash in Jupiter Island, shows Woods telling a deputy, “I was just talking to the president,” moments before his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. While the phone conversation itself was not recorded, the remark has raised questions about who he may have been referring to, with speculation pointing toward Donald Trump, a known associate.
According to police, Woods was involved in a single-vehicle crash after his SUV clipped a truck and overturned on a residential road. Fortunately, no one was injured. Officers on the scene conducted a sobriety test and determined that Woods’ ability to operate a vehicle appeared impaired.
Bodycam video shows Woods appearing disoriented and surprised as he was placed under arrest. During the process, deputies recovered prescription medication identified by Woods as a painkiller containing hydrocodone. Authorities later confirmed its presence.
Woods maintained that he had not consumed alcohol, and a breathalyzer test supported that claim. However, he admitted to taking prescribed medications earlier in the day and declined a urine test, which under Florida law can itself lead to legal consequences.
During roadside testing, deputies observed Woods struggling with balance and coordination. He explained that his physical condition—shaped by multiple surgeries, including several on his back and right leg—affected his mobility. Despite this, officers concluded that he was not in a condition to safely drive.
Following his arrest, Woods pleaded not guilty and later issued a statement indicating he would step away from professional commitments to focus on his health and seek treatment.
The incident has once again brought attention to the challenges faced by elite athletes dealing with long-term injuries and recovery. Woods, one of the most iconic figures in golf history, has battled repeated health setbacks in recent years, limiting his appearances on the global stage.
For many in the sports community, the episode is a sobering reminder of the pressures and personal struggles that can exist behind even the most celebrated careers.
