Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to outline an ambitious blueprint for Canada’s future today, as King Charles delivers the throne speech in the Senate, officially marking the re-opening of Parliament.
Speaking to his caucus on Sunday, Carney highlighted his government’s priorities, pledging swift action on key affordability measures, including a promised tax cut aimed at easing the financial strain on Canadians.
He emphasized the importance of forging a “new economic and security relationship with the United States,” positioning it as a cornerstone of his mandate.
Carney also promised rapid legislative action to accelerate infrastructure development across the country, with new bills aimed at fast-tracking projects deemed critical to national interest. In addition, the government plans to introduce sweeping reforms to eliminate federal barriers to interprovincial trade.
Acknowledging the challenges of leading a minority government, Carney expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver bold, transformative results. “We’re not just going to be busy in the weeks ahead,” he said. “We’ll be achieving the previously unthinkable—at speeds not seen in generations.”
