Tensions Soar as Pakistan Vows Retaliation Over Indian Air Strikes After Pahalgam Killings

Escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan have raised fresh concerns of regional instability following India’s missile strikes across the border, which New Delhi claims were a direct response to a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam last month.

According to Pakistan, six sites were hit in the early morning strikes, including areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistani officials allege that five Indian fighter jets were shot down in the exchange, though India has not confirmed the claim. Islamabad also reported at least 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries from the strikes and subsequent cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC).

In response, India’s army reported that at least 15 civilians were killed on its side of the LoC due to retaliatory Pakistani shelling. The Indian government maintains that its offensive was targeted and justified, pointing to what it describes as “clear evidence” of Pakistan-based terrorist involvement in the Pahalgam attack that killed several Indian tourists. Pakistan has denied any link to the incident.

The military confrontation has once again turned global attention to Kashmir, a long-disputed region that has witnessed decades of insurgency, violence, and military standoffs. Both India and Pakistan claim the territory in full, and the LoC has remained a frequent flashpoint for deadly clashes.

With both sides trading blame and casualties mounting, Pakistan has vowed to respond. The situation remains volatile as international observers call for restraint and dialogue to avoid a further slide into conflict.
