Taylor Swift Fans Shatter Mobile Data Record at Rogers Centre During Eras Tour

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has not only left fans in awe but also made history at Rogers Centre, where fans on Rogers’ 5G network broke the record for the most data shared and streamed at a single event.

During the November 21 show, Swift fans used an astounding 7.4 terabytes of mobile data within just a few hours. This volume of data equates to uploading 182,000 photos and streaming 1,600 hours of video, Rogers said in a news release on Monday.

“Taylor breaks records wherever she goes, and her fans’ data usage at her Toronto shows was no exception,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer at Rogers. “Our network at Rogers Centre saw more traffic every night of the tour than any other event.”

Enhanced Network Capabilities

Rogers credited its $8 million investment in its 5G network at Rogers Centre for the record-breaking connectivity. This upgrade delivered three times more 5G network capacity throughout the stadium, equivalent to the coverage of 33 downtown Toronto towers.

Economic Impact of the Eras Tour

Beyond breaking records, Taylor Swift’s six sold-out shows in Toronto had a significant impact on the local economy. Destination Toronto estimated the Eras Tour would generate more than $282 million in economic impact, including over $152 million in direct spending.

Payment services provider Moneris reported a 57% increase in downtown Toronto spending during the first three shows, compared to the previous week, across all categories.

Final Tour Stops in Canada

Swift concluded her Toronto performances on November 23, leaving a lasting mark on the city. The Eras Tour will officially wrap up with three shows at BC Place in Vancouver from December 6 to 8.
