Southern Ontario Braces for a Frigid Mix of Sun and Subzero Windchills

Southern Ontario residents should bundle up and keep a warm beverage close at hand as a blast of icy weather rolls in this Sunday, March 2. Despite sunny spells breaking through, the cold will dominate, with windchills plunging to bone-chilling levels across the region.

The day will kick off under cloudy skies, dimming hopes for a vibrant 6:50 a.m. sunrise. Flurries are likely, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of snow persisting from morning into the afternoon. Temperatures won’t offer much relief either—daytime highs will struggle to climb, peaking at -13 C in Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton, -12 C in Hamilton, and a frosty -15 C in Durham. By late afternoon, conditions will ease slightly, with Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Hamilton warming to -6 C, while Durham lags at -8 C.

Winds will add an extra bite, blowing at speeds up to 40 km/h. Windchills will make it feel even harsher: -25 C in Mississauga and Brampton, -23 C in Halton and Hamilton, and a stinging -27 C in Durham.

As the sun sets at 6:06 p.m., cloud cover will thicken. Evening breezes will lighten to 15 km/h, but temperatures will tumble again. Overnight lows will hit -13 C in Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton, -12 C in Hamilton, and a frigid -18 C in Durham. By midnight, windchills will intensify the freeze, dropping to -19 C in Mississauga and Brampton, -18 C in Halton, -17 C in Hamilton, and a shivering -20 C in Durham.
