Shafqat Ali MP Brampton Hosts Meeting of Sikh and Hindu Community Leaders to Promote Unity and Solidarity

On November 8, 2024, Shafqat Ali MP for Brampton took a significant step towards fostering unity and solidarity by organizing a meeting of Sikh and Hindu community leaders at his office. This event, designed to promote harmony and mutual understanding, gathered over 20 prominent community leaders from various organizations. Among those in attendance were notable figures such as Jangir Sehmbi, President of the Association of Seniors, Gian Paul, Chairperson of the Flower City Friends Club (FCFC), Vikas Sharma, Jatinder Kaur from the Mukti Foundation, and Harchand Singh Bassi.

Addressing the assembled community leaders, MP Shafqat Ali spoke on the importance of unity among Canada’s diverse communities, emphasizing the shared values and principles that define the nation. “Canada’s strength lies in its diversity,” Ali stated. “We must remember that our values of inclusivity, respect, and tolerance are what make us strong. No one can break the bonds we have built here.” He further noted that incidents of division are often provoked by isolated forces and encouraged the leaders to work together to overcome these challenges.

Jangir Sehmbi, President of the Association of Seniors, also shared his views, remarking that “such small incidents have nothing to do with the common man. Our strength is in our unity, and events like these remind us of our shared commitment to peace.” His words were met with agreement by those present, reaffirming their commitment to harmony and understanding.

Harchand Singh Bassi expressed a similar sentiment, underscoring the need for all communities to uphold Canadian values. “It is essential for both communities to respect and follow the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” Bassi said. “This document protects our rights and provides the foundation for our diverse and inclusive society.” His emphasis on the Charter highlighted its importance as a guiding principle in fostering mutual respect and understanding among different groups.

Gian Paul, Chairperson of the Flower City Friends Club, spoke passionately about the need to identify and isolate those who seek to create division. “Forces behind these incidents must be identified and isolated. This has no place in our society or community,” he stated firmly. His words resonated with many in the room, emphasizing the shared responsibility to maintain peace and unity.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the attendees. MP Shafqat Ali and the leaders present expressed a collective determination to stand against any forces of division and continue working towards a united and harmonious community in Brampton.
