Scottie Scheffler Wins Gold, Tommy Fleetwood Takes Silver, Hideki Matsuyama Claims Bronze in Thrilling Olympic Golf Finale

Scottie Scheffler delivered a masterful performance at Le Golf National on Sunday, capturing the Olympic gold medal in men’s golf with a stunning comeback. Trailing by four shots at the start of the day, Scheffler surged ahead with a brilliant 9-under 62, sealing his victory in a thrilling final round.

The world’s No. 1 golfer added Olympic gold to an already remarkable year, which includes six PGA TOUR victories and his second Masters title. Scheffler’s win, marked by four consecutive birdies down the stretch, kept a crowd of 30,000 spectators on edge during a wild final two hours.

Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain secured the silver medal after a final-round 66, finishing one shot behind Scheffler at 18-under. Hideki Matsuyama of Japan earned the bronze with a solid 65, finishing at 17-under.

Scheffler’s path to victory was marked by resilience and precision. He began the day four shots behind Spain’s Jon Rahm, who held the lead until a dramatic collapse on the back nine. Rahm’s struggles opened the door for several contenders, but it was Scheffler who took advantage, hitting clutch shots from deep rough and sinking an 18-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to take the lead for the first time.

Scheffler’s 72-hole total of 19-under 265 set an Olympic record, making him the second consecutive American to win gold in men’s golf, following Xander Schauffele’s victory in Tokyo 2020.

Fleetwood, who had briefly tied for the lead after birdieing the 16th, faltered on the 17th, finding the rough and settling for a bogey. He recovered to par the 18th, securing the silver medal.

Matsuyama was in contention throughout the back nine but could not close the gap, finishing with six straight pars to claim the bronze.

Rory McIlroy of Ireland made a late charge with five consecutive birdies on the back nine but saw his hopes dashed with a double bogey on the 15th. He tied for fifth with Rahm, both finishing two shots off the podium.

Scheffler’s victory capped an extraordinary week, with his final-round 62 matching the best closing round of his career. His triumph at the Paris Olympics solidifies his status as the world’s top golfer and adds another prestigious title to his growing list of accomplishments.
