Princess of Wales Celebrates Remission, Thanks Medical Team at Royal Marsden
Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed on Tuesday that she is officially in remission following treatment for cancer. During an emotional visit to The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in Chelsea, west London, the Princess expressed her gratitude to the medical staff who cared for her over the past year.
In a social media post, the 43-year-old royal shared her relief and optimism about the future, writing: “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
The visit marked her first solo public engagement of 2025 as she gradually resumes royal duties after stepping back last year to focus on her health. Catherine completed chemotherapy in September 2024 and announced her commitment to staying cancer-free.
During her visit, Catherine met with medical teams and current patients, taking time to share her experiences and offer encouragement. Speaking with patients at the Medical Day Unit, she acknowledged the challenges of chemotherapy, remarking, “It’s really tough. It’s such a shock.” She also joked with one patient about growing “attached” to her medication port.
Catherine’s return to the hospital was both a gesture of gratitude and an effort to highlight the facility’s world-class care. In her social media post, she extended heartfelt thanks to the Royal Marsden staff, adding, “The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
Kensington Palace announced that Catherine has become joint patron of the specialist cancer center alongside her husband, Prince William. As joint patrons, the royal couple will support the hospital’s mission to advance cancer research, treatment, and care. Catherine expressed her hopes that their efforts will “save many more lives and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
The Royal Marsden has a long history of royal support. Prince William has served as the hospital’s president since 2007, succeeding his late mother, Princess Diana, who was deeply involved in its work. The hospital, established in 1851, was the world’s first dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research, and education. Today, it remains at the forefront of cancer care.
Prince William praised his wife’s resilience, calling her strength over the past year “remarkable” during a recent birthday celebration. Catherine, in turn, expressed her gratitude to those who supported her and her family during her journey.
The Royal Marsden’s chief executive, Cally Palmer, lauded the impact of royal patronage, stating, “We are incredibly fortunate to receive Royal Patronage – it is inspiring for staff and patients and enables us to shine a light on the outstanding work our staff deliver every day for patients and their families.”
As Catherine looks forward to the year ahead, her dedication to raising awareness and supporting those affected by cancer remains steadfast. Her journey serves as a powerful testament to resilience and the importance of community support in the face of adversity.
