Donald Trump’s Republican Party held a narrow lead in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday as election officials finalized the vote count. Republicans have secured at least 211 seats in the 435-member House, just seven short of a majority, with 24 races still uncalled, according to Edison Research. A Republican-controlled House and Senate would provide Trump with significant power to implement his policies, including tax cuts, energy deregulation, and stricter border security.
Democrats, however, remain hopeful of gaining a House majority, with recent success in New York, where Democratic challengers Laura Gillen and Josh Riley flipped two Republican seats. Key races in California and other states are still being counted, leaving a path for Democrats if they can win 18 of the remaining uncalled seats.
Meanwhile, Republicans are projected to hold a majority in the Senate, which would enable them to confirm Trump’s cabinet and judicial appointments. Close Senate races remain in Nevada and Arizona, where Democrats Jacky Rosen and Ruben Gallego hold slim leads over their Republican opponents.
