Peel Regional Police Deploys First Fully Electric Patrol Vehicle – 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Launched

Peel Regional Police has reached a major milestone in its commitment to sustainability and innovation with the deployment of its first fully electric patrol vehicle, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer Electric Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV). Officially launched on April 24, 2025, this vehicle represents a significant advancement in the evolution of policing technology within the region.

This groundbreaking move marks the beginning of a pilot project to assess the performance and practicality of electric vehicles (EVs) in active duty scenarios, including battery performance during high-demand operations and winter conditions. The pilot is an extension of the service’s broader environmental sustainability strategy, following the earlier deployment of the Ford Mustang Mach-SR EV in 2022.

“The integration of electric patrol vehicles into our fleet will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and lower fuel and maintenance costs, reinforcing our dedication to being the most progressive, innovative, and inclusive police service in Canada,” said Mark Figueiredo, Director of Materials Management, Peel Regional Police.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is engineered to match the performance and capabilities of traditional internal combustion engine-powered patrol vehicles, offering a range of over 400 kilometers—well above the average 100 kilometers covered during an officer’s shift. This all-electric model demonstrates the service’s readiness to adopt cutting-edge green technology without compromising on operational needs.

Looking ahead, 23 Division, a state-of-the-art police facility currently under construction in Brampton, will be equipped with infrastructure to support a large-scale EV fleet when it opens in 2027.

Peel Regional Police has been a national leader in green fleet adoption since 2020, when it became one of the first Canadian police services to deploy fully marked hybrid patrol vehicles. As of today, the service operates 192 hybrid vehicles, including 133 dedicated patrol units, and five electric vehicles, of which the Blazer EV is the first designated for patrol use.

This initiative supports the Region of Peel’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent below 2010 levels by 2030. Between 2022 and 2023, Peel Regional Police achieved a 1.2 per cent reduction in GHG emissions across its facilities and fleet, with fleet emissions alone down approximately 11 per cent compared to 2010 levels.

The addition of the Chevrolet Blazer Electric PPV signals a new chapter in environmentally responsible law enforcement, paving the way for a cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready police service.
