Peel Regional Police have issued an arrest warrant for a Toronto man accused of orchestrating a large-scale ticket fraud scheme that has resulted in a financial loss of over $38,000. The suspect is alleged to have sold fake concert and sporting event tickets to unsuspecting victims across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Details of the Investigation
Between February and October 2024, Peel Police conducted a comprehensive investigation after receiving multiple reports of fraudulent ticket sales. The suspect is accused of presenting counterfeit tickets as legitimate purchases from reputable ticketing companies, deceiving buyers in what police describe as an “advance fee scam.”
The victim in this particular case incurred losses exceeding $38,000, and investigators believe the scam is part of a larger fraudulent operation targeting individuals throughout the GTA.
Suspect Details
An arrest warrant has been issued for Jaspal Singh Thiara, 37, of Toronto, who is wanted on charges of:
- Fraud Over $5,000
- Failing to Comply
Police revealed that Thiara is currently on judicial release for similar charges.
Public Advisory
Peel Regional Police are warning residents to exercise caution when purchasing event tickets, particularly amid heightened demand during Taylor Swift’s six sold-out concerts in Toronto this week. Authorities suspect additional victims may have been targeted or could still be at risk of falling prey to similar scams.
How to Protect Yourself
Police recommend the following steps to avoid becoming a victim of ticket fraud:
- Purchase tickets only from authorized and reputable ticketing platforms.
- Verify ticket authenticity directly with the event organizer or venue.
- Avoid transactions that request advance payments without proper documentation.
