Over 20 Millions Devotees Take Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh on Maghi Purnima Amid Tight Security in India

The sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati witnessed a massive spiritual gathering as over 2 Millions devotees participated in the Maghi Purnima snan (holy dip) during the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The event, which began early Wednesday, saw pilgrims and saints from across the country come together for one of the most auspicious bathing days of the festival.

With the Maghi Purnima snan, the month-long Kalpavas, a period of spiritual retreat and penance observed by over 1 Million Kalpavasis, came to an end. The UP government urged devotees to follow designated routes and traffic rules to ensure a smooth transition as they began leaving the festival grounds.

Given the sheer scale of participation, authorities intensified security through ‘Operation Chaturbhuj’, a high-tech surveillance system utilizing 2,750 CCTV cameras, drones, and an anti-drone system to monitor the crowds in real time.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, monitoring the event from a war room in Lucknow since 4 AM, ensured seamless crowd movement and public safety. The entire Kumbh area was declared a ‘no-vehicle zone’, with over 1,200 shuttle buses deployed to ferry pilgrims every 10 minutes.

Speaking on the arrangements, Maha Kumbh SSP Rajesh Dwivedi stated:

“Our police teams are strategically deployed across all pressure points, ensuring smooth movement of devotees. Aerial surveillance and anti-drone measures have strengthened overall security.”

Among the millions gathered was former Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble, who took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam alongside his wife, Chaitna Ramtirtha. Choosing to participate without VIP privileges, he performed the ritual in true pilgrim spirit, joining the masses for the auspicious bath.

Pilgrims expressed their gratitude for the well-coordinated event management.

Srinivas from Andhra Pradesh shared:

“The UP government has done an incredible job. Many thanks to CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi for making this event a grand success.”

Another devotee, Gayatri, reflected on the religious significance:

“I feel proud to be here as a Hindu. This event has strengthened our spiritual unity and traditions.”

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will culminate on February 26, with the final ‘Amrit Snan’ on Mahashivratri.

However, in a tragic incident during the Manui Amavasya Amrit Snan on January 29, a stampede led to 30 deaths and 60 injuries, prompting officials to further enhance safety measures for upcoming bathing days.

For real-time updates on Maha Kumbh arrangements and advisories, devotees are encouraged to follow official government bulletins.
