Ontario and Canada Recalls: Products Sold Through Amazon, Canadian Tire, Best Buy and Shoppers Drug Mart Flagged for Safety Concerns

Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have issued a series of important recall notices this week affecting a wide range of consumer products and food items commonly purchased by Ontarians. Several recalled items were sold through major retailers including Amazon, Canadian Tire, Best Buy, and Shoppers Drug Mart, prompting federal agencies to urge consumers to review the latest advisories carefully.

Health Canada reported recalls for multiple consumer goods, including power banks, baby toys, bicycles, rowing machines, dietary supplements and nitrous oxide chargers. Among the most notable recalls is the Life Brand Magnesium Bisglycinate 200 mg supplement sold at Shoppers Drug Mart and Amazon, which was pulled from shelves due to an undeclared ingredient. While classified as a lower-risk Type III recall, Health Canada recommends that concerned consumers consult their healthcare providers.

Transport Canada has also issued an alert for 2024 Continental CrossContact LX25 tires, some of which were sold at Canadian Tire. A manufacturing defect could lead to tread separation and potential tire failure, posing a risk of collisions. Likewise, Health Canada issued a safety notice for NordicTrack rowing machines sold through Amazon and Best Buy after reports that the console screen could overheat and ignite. Consumers are advised to stop using these machines immediately.

Two Belkin products, the Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K and the Auto-Tracking Stand Pro, were also recalled nationwide after their lithium-ion components were found to overheat with potential fire hazards. Additional recalls include the MÖBI Zippee Activity Toy, sold on Amazon, due to choking concerns for young children, as well as several Trek and Electra bicycles with coaster brakes that may fail due to inadequate lubrication inside the brake hub.

In addition to consumer product recalls, the CFIA has issued several food safety warnings. New recalls have been announced for Spring Creek Quail Farms Mild Pickled Quail Eggs due to undeclared mustard, a concern for individuals with allergies. The CFIA also continues to manage a growing salmonella outbreak linked to pistachios and pistachio-containing products. To date, 117 Canadians have fallen ill and 17 have been hospitalized. In response, Canada has temporarily banned pistachio imports from Iran. A number of products sold across Ontario—including Mississauga, Oakville, Scarborough and Thornhill—have been recalled as part of this investigation, alongside earlier recalls of products sold in Brampton, Ottawa, and online through Amazon.

A separate salmonella outbreak connected to contaminated dog food and treats has made 32 Canadians sick, with eight people hospitalized across three provinces and one territory. Health authorities continue to advise pet owners to check all advisories and discard affected products immediately.

Health Canada and the CFIA encourage Canadians to remain vigilant and report any issues with consumer goods, food products, cannabis, health products or medications through the federal reporting portals available online. Canadians can also access ongoing recall updates through both agencies’ official websites.
