Ontario’s Jeopardy! hopeful Juveria Zaheer will need a big performance on Wednesday night if she wants to secure a spot in the Jeopardy! Masters final. The Whitby-based psychiatrist and researcher is currently in fourth place in the semi-finals standings, with only three players advancing to the championship round.
Leading the standings are Pittsburgh writer Victoria Groce and reigning Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, both of whom secured their spots in the finals after strong showings in the first two games. That leaves Zaheer facing off against five-time champion Isaac Hirsch in a must-win matchup on Wednesday.
The semi-final showdown will determine who joins Groce and Raut in the prestigious final, which will follow immediately after the last semi-final game in a traditional two-game format.
Zaheer, who works with CAMH and the University of Toronto, earned her spot in the Jeopardy! Masters tournament after winning a wildcard qualifier in early 2024. She previously competed in the Tournament of Champions earlier this year, reaching the quarter-finals before bowing out in February.
Now back on the Masters stage, Zaheer has become a fan favorite, following in the footsteps of fellow Canadian Mattea Roach. So far in the tournament, she has earned $191,000 in winnings. The top prize is $500,000, along with a $100,000 charitable donation made in the winner’s name. Second place earns $250,000, third place $150,000, and fourth $100,000.
Jeopardy! Masters, hosted by Ken Jennings, brings together top-tier champions from recent years in a Champions League-style format that has captivated trivia fans across North America. For Zaheer, Wednesday’s game is her last chance to claim a spot in the final—and a shot at becoming Canada’s next Jeopardy! legend.
