More Young American Women Considering Leaving the U.S., With Canada as Top Destination: Gallup Poll

WASHINGTON — A growing number of young American women say they want to permanently move abroad — and Canada is their most preferred destination, according to a new Gallup survey.

The poll reveals that 40% of U.S. women aged 15 to 44 would choose to leave the United States if given the chance. That figure has quadrupled since 2014, when only 10% of women in the same age group expressed interest in emigrating.

Desire to Leave Doesn’t Mean They Will, Gallup Notes

Gallup emphasized that the results reflect expressed desire, not actual migration plans. Still, the numbers point to a noticeable shift in attitudes among younger women in the U.S.

One in Five Americans Would Leave the Country

Across all demographics, the poll found that about 20% of Americans say they would move to another country if they could.

The survey, conducted by phone between June 14 and July 16, included 1,000 respondents aged 15 and older. It carries a margin of error of ±4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Canada Remains the Top Choice

Among young women considering a permanent move, Canada ranks as their most common preferred destination, reflecting longstanding cultural, geographic, and economic ties between the two countries.
