Mississauga is calling on animal lovers to open their hearts and homes this weekend as Mississauga Animal Services hosts its annual Adopt-a-Thon from October 17 to 19. The three-day event is designed to help dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals find loving, permanent homes — many of them after spending more than a year in the shelter.
Future pet owners can take advantage of a 50 per cent discount on adoption fees, with all cats and dogs already spayed or neutered and ready to join new families. “The shelter is opening its doors to potential and existing pet owners to meet and adopt pets waiting to go to their forever home. Come meet your best new buddy and help us reduce the number of pets waiting to be adopted,” city officials said.
The Adopt-a-Thon takes place at Mississauga Animal Services, located at 735 Central Parkway West. The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. No appointment is needed. A professional dog trainer and behaviouralist will be available each day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to offer free advice on pet care and training.
City officials emphasize that adopting from the shelter not only gives animals a second chance but also provides adopters with valuable benefits. Every animal receives thorough health and wellness checks, initial vaccinations (rabies
