Lata Pada, founder of Mississauga-based Sampradaya Dance Creations, transformed personal tragedy into a legacy of art and healing. After the devastating loss of her husband and daughters in the 1985 Air India Flight 182 bombing, Pada turned to Bharatanatyam, the Indian classical dance form she had studied since childhood, as a means of catharsis and rebuilding.
Drawing from her roots and the depth of her experience, Pada established Sampradaya Dance Creations, which has grown over the past 35 years into a recognized leader in the Canadian dance sector. The company specializes in creating and producing classical and contemporary dance works, offering both a tribute to Indian dance traditions and a space for cultural expression.
Reflecting on her journey, Pada shared, “Dance became my anchor, helping me navigate through profound grief and finding new purpose.” Through Sampradaya, she has inspired countless artists and audiences, making an indelible impact on Canada’s cultural landscape.
