Mississauga Secures Court Injunction to Curb Safety Risks at Ridgeway Plaza

The City of Mississauga has taken decisive legal action to address persistent safety concerns at Ridgeway Plaza. On August 13, 2025, the Ontario Superior Court granted the City’s request for a temporary injunction to curb ongoing issues that have plagued the area for the past two years, including large unsanctioned gatherings, loud music, illegal street racing, fireworks, littering, altercations, and dangerous driving. These activities have drawn crowds of more than 3,000 people at times, creating significant safety hazards and obstructing emergency services. Despite enhanced enforcement efforts in collaboration with Peel Regional Police, the problems persisted, prompting the City to seek court intervention. The injunction requires the condominium corporations that own and manage the plaza to control vehicle access, install parking gate arms or barriers, hire adequate security and paid-duty police officers, and manage pedestrian traffic to prevent loitering and gatherings in the parking lot. It will be in effect from noon on Wednesday, August 13 until 2 a.m. on Friday, August 15, and from noon on Tuesday, August 19 until 2 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, subject to further court variation. Enforcement will be carried out by the City and Peel Regional Police’s Joint Enforcement Operations team, with road closures on Platinum Drive and Odyssey Drive, along with signage to notify visitors of the restrictions. Violations could result in fines, detention, arrest, or contempt of court charges for property managers, business owners, or others who encourage gatherings or remain open during enforcement periods. The City acted ahead of expected large-scale unsanctioned events linked to Pakistan Independence Day on August 13–14 and Afghanistan Independence Day on August 19, aiming to ensure public safety and order. This legal step follows earlier Council approval of traffic calming measures in the surrounding area to address reckless driving concerns stemming from a fatal collision in August 24.
